Pairing Knife.cpt System7DL AMUG CD:Files:System7 tools:P-Q:Pairing Knife.cpt 0 16K 11/06/92 Pairing Knife - Pairing Knife does an unbiased kerning pair frequency analysis of files of type TEXT. Unbiased means that all printing characters (from ASCII 32 to 255) are considered in the analysis. Kerning Pairs, of course, are pairs of characters that can appear in text and that can have kerning applied between them. Frequency Analysis means that every pair combination is counted each time it appears. Only works in drag and drop format under System 7.0.
GREG'S BUTTONS 2.0.CPT System7DL AMUG CD:Files:System7 tools:G:GREG'S BUTTONS 2.0.CPT 2.0 0 19K 11/06/92 GREG'S BUTTONS 2.0 - Greg's Buttons 2.0 is a System 7 extension that replaces the standard black and white buttons and checkboxes with new Mondo Cool color 3-D ones. ElfNiks.cpt System7DL AMUG CD:Files:System7 tools:E:ElfNiks.cpt 0 12K 11/06/92 ElfNiks - ElfNiks is SYSTEM 7 ONLY. Its only interface is Drag and Drop, so you cannot use it with earlier Systems. If you double-click on it from a System 6 machine, you will get an error message and the software will quit gracefully. ElfNiks does two dumb jobs, actually. It filters files originating on Unix systems and converts the Linefeeds to Carriage Returns. And it filters DOS files, throwing the Linefeeds away. To use ElfNiks _with_ System 7, simply select the files you want to filter and drag them on the program's icon or an alias of it.

It draws over any existing folder icon. If a folder has custom icon it will NOT draw a number on it (NEW in version 1.1). It sometimes is useful to know at a glance if a folder contains anything and this will do exactly that.
Powerless.cpt System7DL AMUG CD:Files:Util:Pm-Pz:Powerless.cpt 0 15K 10/27/92 Powerless - Powerless lets you schedule automatic, unattended system shutdowns. Get More Info151.cpt System7DL AMUG CD:Files:System7 tools:G:Get More Info151.cpt 1.5.1 0 36K 10/27/92 Get More Info151 - Get More Info is an extention that provides a very quick and easy way to change the type, creator and/or Finder flags for files directly from the Finder. I found that the drag/drop apps out there that change type/creators were too slow for me and I wanted something faster. You invoke Get More Info by selecting the desired file(s) in the Finder and then holding down the option key while choosing 'Get Info' from the File menu in the Finder (or press cms-option-i after you select the file(s) ). A modal dialog will open allowing you to change the type, creator and any of the Finder flags for the file(s) selected.
FlameFile v1.2.cpt System7DL AMUG CD:Files:System7 tools:F:FlameFile v1.2.cpt 1.2 0 13K 10/27/92 FlameFile v1.2 - FlameFile is a drag-and-drop "complete delete" utility that completely erases entire files and folders so that snoops with "un-delete" utilities can't get at your work. Version 1.2 includes several new security features, including the ability to change file names, creation & modification dates, file info, and file sizes before deleting, an optional safety feature, as well as the standard support for folders and Apple Events.
Airport QuickStart.cpt System7DL AMUG CD:Files:System7 tools:Powerbook:Airport QuickStart.cpt 1.02 0 9K 10/27/92 Airport QuickStart - Airport Quickstart is an extension which allows faster starting of a powerbook at those airport security gates when the agents wants to be sure you're carrying a computer, and not a bomb. Enclosed is edition 1.0.2 of Airport QuickStart. It now loads a lot sooner (maybe a few seconds so) and no longer exhibits the incompatibility with Now Startup. It is no longer a cdev but is an extension instead, which is fine because the cdev never worked anyway (there's nothing to configure in this extension...you simply hold down the 'Q' key at startup to make it work).
AlphaSound.cpt System7DL AMUG CD:Files:System7 tools:A:AlphaSound.cpt 0 25K 10/26/92 AlphaSound.cpt - The purpose of AlphaSound is one that has traditionally been done by “INITs”—it plays a sound when you start up your Mac. AlphaSound requires the new Sound Manager and the new File Manager in System 7. Since it is not an application in the traditional sense, you will find it hard to launch under previous systems, yet, even if you do manage to do so, AlphaSound will politely check its operating environment and silently quit. AlphaSound plays the sound asynchronously—that is, the sound plays while your Macintosh computer continues to do other tasks.
TrashMan4.0.3.cpt System7DL AMUG CD:Files:System7 tools:T:TrashMan4.0.3.cpt 4.0.3 0 117K 10/26/92 TrashMan4.0.3.cpt - TrashMan works like an electronic compost heap, deleting files from your trash after they have 'aged' beyond a setpoint that you specify, in days, hours, and minutes. (For example, I keep mine set at 1 day, so I always have exactly the last 24 hours worth of trash in my trashcan.) TrashMan works with all local mounted volumes except floppies. If you use TrashMan, you need never choose ‘Empty Trash’ from the ‘Special’ menu ever again, and yet still receive the benefits of the new non-emptying trash in System 7.0.
ToggleAT.cpt System7DL AMUG CD:Files:System7 tools:Powerbook:ToggleAT.cpt 0 9K 10/26/92 ToggleAT - is an FKEY for the Macintosh PowerBook. The intent of this FKEY isto be able to avoid going to the Chooser to turn off AppleTalk every time you take your PowerBook on the road since this requires a menu item, a button click, an “Are you sure” dialog, an OK dialog and a close box. Turning it back on requires a menu item, a button click, an OK dialog and a close box. This is almost more trouble than it is worth. So, I wanted an FKEY that allowed me to blast AppleTalk off with a single key combo and hit the road. This is the ToggleAT FKEY. It comes as resource ID 12, which is only useful if you use a macro program like QuicKeys to trigger it. If you want to use it without such, you will need to renumber it.
LaterLaser1.0b1.cpt System7DL AMUG CD:Files:System7 tools:Powerbook:LaterLaser1.0b1.cpt 1.0b1 0 20K 10/26/92 LaterLaser - is a system extension which works with PrintMonitor to enhance your system. With this extension installed, when you print to a LaserWriter printer which is not available (because the printer is turned off, or your computer is not connected to the correct Appletalk network), the document will be delayed indefinately in the PrintMonitor Documents folder in the System Folder. Later, when this computer detects that the printer for a document is available, it will cause the document to print immediately in the background. This extension is most useful when used on a Macintosh Powerbook or Portable computer, because it is possible to print documents while 'on the road'.
FileBejeezus 1.0.cpt System7DL AMUG CD:Files:System7 tools:F:FileBejeezus 1.0.cpt 1.0 0 12K 10/26/92 FileBejeezus - is a type/creator changer (yes, another one) It's purpose is clear, To provide an easy way to change the file type and creator signatures of large amounts of files with a single movement of the mouse. Another great use for it is to keep several copies (the app is only about 12k decompressed) on your desktop, each with different settings. You could have one to set GIF files so they'll launch into GifConverter. You could have one to set text files to your favorite word processor or text editor. See the accompanying list of file and creator types for more possible conversions.
DirectoryMan 1.1.cpt System7DL AMUG CD:Files:System7 tools:D:DirectoryMan 1.1.cpt 1.1 0 61K 10/26/92 DirectoryMan 1.1.cpt - Drop volumes, files, or folders into this application and DirectoryMan will create a list of all the files enclosed. Holding Option while dragging an object onto DirectoryMan will create a list seperated by Tabs. That way you can import the file list into a spreadsheet for further manipulation.
VMTuner.cpt System7DL AMUG CD:Files:System7 tools:U-Z:VMTuner.cpt 0 83K 10/14/92 VMTuner - System 7 offers you the ability to 'extend' the available memory by pretending your Macintosh has more RAM than it actually has installed. Instead, the Mac uses a file on disk to store portions of the RAM it currently doesn't need in order to make room for another portion it needs to use now. This way of extending memory is called virtual memory (VM), and it happens transparently for the applications, except for one thing: speed. The so-called swapping of portions of RAM from and to the disk causes your computer to slow down considerably. The larger you set the virtual memory size, the slower your Mac will get.
Texx02.cpt System7DL AMUG CD:Files:System7 tools:T:Texx02.cpt .02 0 91K 10/14/92 Texx02 - Texx is a System 7 scripting application. It supports all the Finder events, the four required events and the Do Script event. The Texx language is patterned after IBM's REXX interpreter that is most commonly found on IBM's VM operating system.
Startup Font Manager 1.1.1.cpt System7DL AMUG CD:Files:System7 tools:S:Startup Font Manager 1.1.1.cpt 1.1.1 0 20K 10/14/92 Startup Font Manager is a System 7.1-ONLY extension designed to give people the ability to enable/disable fonts at startup. It accomplishes this by moving fonts to/from the Fonts folder (inside the System Folder) from/to a (newly created) "Disabled Fonts" folder inside the "Fonts" folder. Doing this effectively hides fonts from the System, which doesn't install them at startup. Fonts which are hidden from the System this way are not "installed"; that is, they do not show up in Font menus and such.
Folder Watcher 1.0.cpt System7DL AMUG CD:Files:System7 tools:F:Folder Watcher 1.0.cpt 1.0 0 40K 10/14/92 Folder Watcher - a faceless background application that keeps an eye on an unlimited number of folders on your Macintosh, or a remote Macintosh. If the contents one of these folders ever changes, Folder Watcher will alert you via a Notification Manager alert, a system beep, a custom sound, by writing to a log file, or any combination of these.
Extensions Manager 1.8.cpt System7DL AMUG CD:Files:System7 tools:E:Extensions Manager 1.8.cpt 1.8 0 20K 10/14/92 Extensions Manager 1.8 - Extensions Manager allows you turn "off" or "on" the code that executes a startup in certain "extension documents" such as Control Panels, Chooser devices and INITs (known before as startup documents). With System 7.50 there are a few folders where system extensions can be located, therefore the old style "INIT Managers" do not work well. Extensions Manager and EM Extension are free software and can be distributed freely by individuals. For Commercial distribution or bulletin board distribuition please contact Apple Software Licensing. Extensions Manager is Copyright 1990-92 Apple Computer,Inc. All Rights Reserved. by Ricardo Batista.
edison10.cpt System7DL AMUG CD:Files:System7 tools:Powerbook:edison10.cpt 1.0 0 53K 10/14/92 Edison10 - In a small window this program shows Digital battery level, CPU speed, whether the AC adapter is plugged in, charging state and 2 separate timers indicating elapsed time since last charge and running time since last charge. It is suggested that you place it in your startup folder and use it to track battery usage times. Freeware application.
Desktop Valet v.2.0.cpt System7DL AMUG CD:Files:System7 tools:D:Desktop Valet v.2.0.cpt 2.0 0 6K 10/14/92 Desktop Valet v.2.0 - End desktop clutter forever! Avoid the most tedious file operations. This utility will move, delete, shred or alias files that are dropped on it. Put copies of it in your Apple Menu, on your launch pad, or in deep folders. Make aliases of it on your desktop and rename them according to function. Just double click on it and choose your options. The drag and drop interface is pretty self explanatory. Desktop Valet does not work on floppy disks.
DeBNDL 1.0.cpt System7DL AMUG CD:Files:System7 tools:D:DeBNDL 1.0.cpt 1.0 0 65K 10/14/92 DeBNDL 1.0 - DeBNDL is a drop-type application for use with Apple's System 7.0 or better. It provides a simple method for replacing an icon in the Finder's Desktop File. Normally, you would have to rebuild the Desktop File by holding down command-option when rebooting and then waiting for the Finder to rebuild the entire Desktop File. While this is still recommended when adding, changing or removing substantial numbers of application and other files from your hard drive, when designing that one icon for your special folder or new application DeBNDL is the ticket.
CopyDoubler-Demo.cpt System7DL AMUG CD:Files:System7 tools:C:CopyDoubler-Demo.cpt 1.0 0 91K 10/14/92 CopyDoubler-Demo - CopyDoubler dramatically improves operations in the System 7 Finder. This feature can be used for incredibly fast backups. Using this feature can increase copying speed by 50 times.
Another Finder Hack 1.1.cpt System7DL AMUG CD:Files:System7 tools:A:Another Finder Hack 1.1.cpt 1.1 0 4K 10/14/92 Finder Hack 1.1 - If you run System 7 on your Mac and use multiple hard drives or multiple hard drive partitions, you’ve probably run across an alert when you try to unmount one of those icons saying, "Are you sure that you sure you want to remove the disk "---" from the desktop? It will reappear on the desktop when the Macintosh is restarted." If you’re annoyed by this alert, you can turn it off by using ResEdit. Details inside!

TtroMaker.cpt System7DL AMUG CD:Files:System7 tools:T:TtroMaker.cpt 0 10K 10/02/92 TtroMaker - One in a family of programmer's tools. This is a 'Drag and Drop' Application that changes any TeachText file dropped onto it, toggleing the file between Read / Write and Read Only. KILLFDR1.CPT System7DL AMUG CD:Files:System7 tools:J-K:KILLFDR1.CPT 0 4K 9/24/92 KILLFDR1 - Kill Finder is a tiny application that will force the Finder to quit when it is launched. If there are no other applications running, the Finder will simply restart again, so be sure another process is in the background. Quitting the Finder will give you about 300K of memory, but you will lose the configurable part of the apple menu, so be sure you have launched all the apps that you will need. I wrote Kill Finder because I needed a quick and easy way to make the Finder quit. Some programs will make use of the free memory through temporary memory options and such. Kill Finder requires System 7.0 or higher, supports Apple Events, and is 32 bit compatible. Enjoy!
IconBOSS.cpt System7DL AMUG CD:Files:System7 tools:H-I:IconBOSS.cpt 0 52K 9/24/92 IconBOSS - IconBOSS is a general purpose icon editor for the Macintosh and, more specifically, a Macintosh running under System 7. With this application you may view and edit the icon of any file on your system (as of this version, viewing or editing folder and volume icons is not supported, although that might change with a future release). If you elect to make changes to the icon, you have the option to save the new icon in a separate file (perhaps for use at a later date) or you may update the icon for the file itself, similar to the way you can paste custom icons in System 7's Get Info dialog for files.

AppDisk1.6.cpt System7DL AMUG CD:Files:System7 tools:A:AppDisk1.6.cpt 1.6 0 26K 9/24/92 AppDisk1.6 - AppDisk is a ramdisk. What is a ramdisk? Its a piece of software that lets you use some extra RAM memory as a really fast hard disk. The disk will appear on your desktop just like any other hard disk, and you can copy files to it just like normal. The only difference between a ramdisk and a normal disk is that when you turn the power off to your Mac, or restart, the contents of the ramdisk are lost. This is one reason AppDisk has several options to automatically save a copy of the ramdisk contents onto your hard disk. The difference between AppDisk and most other ramdisk programs is that the AppDisk gets the memory for its disk from its application memory.

TEXT<->ttro.cpt System7DL AMUG CD:Files:System7 tools:T:TEXT<->ttro.cpt 0 8K 9/19/92 TEXT<->ttro - TEXT<->ttro is the world's simplest drag and drop utility, written to simplify the process converting TeachText read-only documents into normal TeachText files and vice versa. Just drop either kind of TeachText document onto TEXT<->ttro, and it will convert it to the other kind. Keep in mind that unless TEXT<->ttro and the document reside in the same folder, the finder will not change the document's icon until you close and reopen the folder it resides in. TEXT<->ttro is "whatever-you-want -ware". If you'd like to send a buck or two, I'll take the kids for ice cream. If not, well, I hope you like it anyway.
FinderEdit.cpt System7DL AMUG CD:Files:System7 tools:F:FinderEdit.cpt 0 27K 9/19/92 FinderEdit - FinderEdit is one of the most useful system 7 utility applications I've ever come across. The author is Dan Weisman whom I've tried to get-a-hold through his internet address and failed. I took the liberty to modify it slightly to create an Icl8. The docs. give information on where to send the shareware contribution. FinderEdit allows the user to modify file mappings, change the font string, change alias styles, change information under the "get info" box, and add "Quit" commands to the finder. Obviously when it's in use it shuts off the finder so I don't recommend running any other applications in the background while FinderEdit is active.
ExtensionManagerIcons.cpt System7DL AMUG CD:Files:System7 tools:E:ExtensionManagerIcons.cpt 0 5K 9/19/92 ExtensionManagerIcons - Icons for those (disabled) folders. These match my "system 7 system icons".
Customize your Finder 7!.cpt System7DL AMUG CD:Files:System7 tools:C:Customize your Finder 7!.cpt 0 6K 9/19/92 Customize your Finder 7! - Well, you know when you use the Finder's Find command, and a window comes up telling you it's searching? Since most of us fall into one of these two categories, ClickLock is for you. This simple INIT (system extension) allows you to "lock" the trackball's button down. To do so, hold down the "cntl" key (the "control" key on desktop keyboards) while clicking the trackball (or mouse) button. Now even after you release the trackball button, the Macintosh will still think that the button is down. Not until you click a second time will the Mac "unlock", or release, the button.
BlackHoleIII.cpt System7DL AMUG CD:Files:System7 tools:B:BlackHoleIII.cpt 0 17K 9/19/92 BlackHoleIII - Yet another Black Hole trash can replacement. But mine requires System 7. The others don't even work w/ it. Also shareware one dollar. Read docs.
Bail.cpt System7DL AMUG CD:Files:System7 tools:B:Bail.cpt 0 39K 9/19/92 Bail - If you've ever accidentally launched a program and had to wait for it to completely load before you could quit it, you need Bail. Bail gives you an opportunity early in the launch cycle of the application to quit. When any application loads, Bail shows a couple of dots up in the left corner for approximately 3 seconds. If you wish to bail out before the loading contines, hold down the mouse button and you will return immediately to the Finder. If you don't want to wait for the 3 seconds, hold down the 'g' key ([G]o, get it?).
TrashSelector 1.2.cpt System7DL AMUG CD:Files:System7 tools:T:TrashSelector 1.2.cpt 1.2 0 25K 9/04/92 TrashSelector 1.2 - Trash Selector 1.2 is a System 7 utility (cdev) which allows you to trash only those items in the trash can you wish to trash. When you select "Empty Trash" (actually it will say "Trash Selector" when Trash Selector is active) from the Special menu, you will be presented with a hierarchical list of all items in the trash can. Select the ones you want to trash and then trash 'em. Couldn't be easier.

It works across volumes (even floppies). It is fast, small, and convenient.

E-Meters.cpt System7DL AMUG CD:Files:System7 tools:E:E-Meters.cpt 0 24K 9/04/92 E-Meters - These apps increment a counter every time they are allowed to go through their event loop, if they are in the background then they must rely on the active application to pass spare time onto other applications running under Multifinder or system 7+. PowerBook owners will see what happens when the CPU drops into rest mode, the display will catch up with this as soon as you move the trackball or hit a key. Both of these apps use the GetNextEvent thingy in the event loop and should get the maximum number of nullevents etc.
BalloonFONT.cpt System7DL AMUG CD:Files:System7 tools:B:BalloonFONT.cpt 0 6K 9/04/92 BalloonFONT - This is a Control Panel Device that allows you to change the Font used with balloon help.

Ray manages to keep his sense of humor tuned to a high key as he travels through uncharted territory. (Don't forget your charge card.) Reprinted from Mac Monitor, newsletter of the Savannah Macintosh Users Group.
SmartFolder 1.0.cpt System7DL AMUG CD:Files:System7 tools:S:SmartFolder 1.0.cpt 1.0 0 9K 8/22/92 SmartFolder 1.0 - SmartFolder is an extention for System 7.0 that draws a number on top of the folder icons in the Finder that represents the number of files/folders within that folder. It draws over any existing folder icon, custom or not. It sometimes is useful to know at a glance if a folder contains anything and this will do exactly that.
OnLocation Frontier.cpt System7DL AMUG CD:Files:System7 tools:Frontier:OnLocation Frontier.cpt 0 9K 8/22/92 OnLocation Frontier - This file contains a glue table that allows Frontier scripts to look up things in OnLocation directories. Three functions are defined, one to return a list of the indexes known to OnLocation and the other two to lookup something in these indexes (or any other OnLocation index) and return either the path names or all the information OnLocation has about the files, respectively.
List Font 0.91.cpt System7DL AMUG CD:Files:System7 tools:L:List Font 0.91.cpt .91 0 13K 8/22/92 List Font 0.91 - List Font is a hack that allows you to change the font and size used in directory dialog file lists, and display the real icons of files in such lists. It requires System 7. I call it a hack because it uses undocumented system information, and may break the next time Apple releases a new System. Compatible with Open-wide and Super Boomerang.
Drag'in 1.2.cpt System7DL AMUG CD:Files:System7 tools:D:Drag'in 1.2.cpt 1.2 0 20K 8/22/92 Drag'in 1.2 - Drag'in is a cool control panel that makes drag'in windows a lot more useful. When you drag a window, instead of the outline of the window, you'll drag the window. Drag'in also has a really cool option called "Multitask while drag'in". If this option is turned on, via the options dialog in the control panel, you'll be able to move around windows and still continue processing while you are doing it. To see an example of this, duplicate a big folder, and move around the progress dialog. You'll notice that the duplication is still happening, even though you are moving the window. Way cool!
AliasStyler.cpt System7DL AMUG CD:Files:System7 tools:A:AliasStyler.cpt 0 6K 8/22/92 AliasStyler - This is a control panel that allows you to change the style that the Finder displays Aliases names in.

PowerSound.cpt System7DL AMUG CD:Files:System7 tools:Powerbook:PowerSound.cpt 0 95K 8/06/92 PowerSound - By popular demand, we have been convinced to come out with an update to our little init. The differences between this version and the last follow 1] This init now runs fine on non-Portable Macintoshes. It will not install itself if that is the case 2] A bug was fixed which caused random sound making when installed witGlobal Village's PowerPort init and several other peices of software. We hope all PowerBook users can get enjoyment out of this init, but feel that it detracts from the spirit of the init to not distribute it with the sound it was written for.

To install Earth, simply put it into your System Folder and reboot. Once it is installed, placing the cursor in the upper left-hand corner of the screen and waiting a fraction of a second will put the spinning globe away (or bring it back). Earth 1.1 may be freely used and copied as long as it is not sold for profit without my permission and any redistribution includes this file. (Enjoy!) If you would like to customize it for yourself, please see the section "For ResEdit Hackers".
Discolour 1.01.cpt System7DL AMUG CD:Files:System7 tools:D:Discolour 1.01.cpt 1.01 0 7K 7/28/92 Discolour 1.01 - Discolour is a system extension for System 7.0 and later that rectifies a shortcoming in the wonderful Finder 7.0: floppy disk icons are displayed as the ugly old black and white icon while the rest of the desktop is bursting with color! Discolour causes the Finder to display beautiful full-color icons in place of the black and white floppy disk icons when you are in 16 color mode or greater. Just drag Discolour onto your System Folder icon and restart your Macintosh to activate it.
Zing.cpt System7DL AMUG CD:Files:System7 tools:U-Z:Zing.cpt 0 23K 7/28/92 Zing - Zing is a small “chat” application that uses system 7 AppleEvents for its communication. Ping doesn’t have a lot of bells and whistles, but it runs in only 30K of memory; small enough to make it possible to run as startup item for most macs. The problem with most larger talk applications is that they’re too large to run, so noone bothers, so you can’t talk after all.

small fortue cookie.cpt System7DL AMUG CD:Files:System7 tools:Frontier:small fortue cookie.cpt 0 16K 7/28/92 small fortue cookie - This verb uses an associated table of "fortunes", which will automatically be installed if the installation script for this verb is allowed to run normally. This verb also depends on the randomness of the random number generator - you will probably want to install the Randomize verb, that overcomes a bug in Frontier™ 1.0 related to the random number generator. The fortunes comes in two sizes (at present) - big and small; the big one requires more memory, and you may have to increase the memory size for the Frontier application in some environments.
SleepAlert.cpt System7DL AMUG CD:Files:System7 tools:Powerbook:SleepAlert.cpt 0 3K 7/28/92 SleepAlert - SleepAlert suppresses the warning dialog that appears if you try to put a PowerBook to sleep while AppleTalk is turned on. It basically simulates clicking the Sleep button. It turns out that there are 3 different dialogs (in increasing order of severity) that might appear, depending on the situation, (1) AppleTalk is turned on, (2) You have a file server mounted, (3) Some program is actively using AppleTalk.
Site-to-Site 1.0.cpt System7DL AMUG CD:Files:System7 tools:S:Site-to-Site 1.0.cpt 1.0 0 24K 7/28/92 Site-to-Site 1.0 - Site-to-Site, a drag-and-drop utility (Drop Rob-Box), moves all selected items (disks, folders, files) into a newly created or existing directory. scratchpad.cdemo1.cpt System7DL AMUG CD:Files:System7 tools:Frontier:scratchpad.cdemo1.cpt 0 8K 7/28/92 scratchpad.cdemo1 - This script produces a list of all the script objects in an app table. It prompts you for the name of the application and then creates an outline of all the scripts in its "app table". Written by Dave Winer for Baiss Magnusson of AutoDesk, to help list his 200+ Frontier verbs! It's a good example of how to use the table.visit verb, which seems to be kind of confusing. Maybe this script will clear up the confusion?
Scheduler Suite.cpt System7DL AMUG CD:Files:System7 tools:Frontier:Scheduler Suite.cpt 0 7K 7/28/92 Scheduler Suite - Is there a script you want to run at the same time every day? Or every hour on the hour? That's what the Scheduler Suite is for -- it turns Frontier into a real-time operating system for scripts. There are two menu items that add a new task to the schedule. Add an Hourly Task… adds a task that runs every hour-on-the-hour. The command prompts you for a single-line script. Click on OK to add the task. If there's a task you want performed every night at 2AM, select the Add an Overnight Task… command.
Savvy.cpt System7DL AMUG CD:Files:System7 tools:S:Savvy.cpt 0 6K 7/28/92 Savvy - Extension--drop in system folder and restart. It modifies "Get Info" dialog box to display an application's System 7 savvy and 32-bit cleanliness. Invaluable for testing applications--don't find out the hard way. Due to popular demand, we have been able to glean a bit more information regarding the codes provided by this init. Savvy apparently reads the SIZE resource and reports the settings contained in that resource.

random fortune cookie.cpt System7DL AMUG CD:Files:System7 tools:Frontier:random fortune cookie.cpt 0 4K 7/28/92 random fortune cookie - This verb overcomes a bug in Frontier™ 1.0. The bug is that the pseudo-random number generator uses the same sequence everytime Frontier is launched - this may be useful in some circumstances, but was not for me. When the Randomize verb is installed in Frontier, a code resource (of type RAND) is added to the Frontier.root file - the code contained in this resource "seeds" the psuedo-random number generator sequence with the current time of day. A call to Randomize in your customStartup script is suggested.

ARA Server.cpt System7DL AMUG CD:Files:System7 tools:Frontier:ARA Server.cpt 0 15K 7/28/92 ARA Server - One of the most exciting new capabilities to come along in quite some time is Apple Computer's AppleTalk Remote Access, or ARA. It allows you to create a connection between a remote computer and a local area network. We like ARA at UserLand, in fact we use it to bridge computers here all the time. It works. Then we heard that Apple was offering an API for ARA -- we couldn't resist creating a small "applet" to bridge ARA to Frontier script writing. As a result, your scripts can now operate over a phone line! This is going to be very interesting. Using ARA Server and Frontier, you can automatically initiate an ARA connection, manage it, and terminate the connection.
Applicon 2.2.cpt System7DL AMUG CD:Files:System7 tools:A:Applicon 2.2.cpt 2.2 0 48K 7/28/92 Applicon 2.2 - Applicon puts up a "tile" (a small square window) for each application you have running under System 7. The tile representing an application displays the application's icon and name. If you click a tile, the corresponding application will come to the front. Option-clicking hides the previous application as the new application comes forward. If Applicon's tiles are all hidden behind other windows, moving the mouse to a "hot spot" in a corner of the main screen will bring them forward. There's just one thing: it ONLY runs under System 7.0 (or later).
AppleEase 1.4.cpt System7DL AMUG CD:Files:System7 tools:A:AppleEase 1.4.cpt 1.4 0 12K 7/28/92 AppleEase 1.4 - AppleEase is a set of two system 7 utilities (AppleEaseIn & AppleEaseOut). They are a complementary pair that make dealing with System 7's AppleMenu much easer. If you drag an application or document onto the AppleEaseIn Icon (I keep mine on the desktop next to the trash) an Alias of the file will Appear in the Apple Menu. AppleEaseOut is an INIT (Er, thats Extension in Apple's newspeak) so in order to use it you must load it into the Extensions folder (inside the system folder) and restart. With AppleEaseOut installed you can select an item from the AppleMenu with the <option> key pressed and it will be removed from the AppleMenu out to the Desktop.

This extension does nothing on other Macintosh computers. The problem addressed only manifests itself under certain conditions. When a color monitor is connected to the on-board video circuitry and the Monitors control panel is set to millions of colors, certain color manipulation commands may not work in some graphics application programs. The problem is not destructive. Your machine will not crash and data will not be corrupted. Installing the 950 Color Addition corrects the problem.

Locate the original file that an alias file describes, and display and change system information about the original file and the alias file. 2. The file information includes the File Type and File Creator, the size of the data and resource fork, and the fRefNum values for the data and resource fork (if they are open). 3. Examine information about volumes. This includes the total number of files on the volume, the volume block size, drive number, device driver, etc.

Now you can select multiple aliases and re-connect them all at once. Also includes a new feature that allows you to double-click on an alias file and see the location of it's owner. All functions have been re-written for speed (the delete function is dramatically faster). Requires System 7.

Moniker 2.0.cpt System7DL AMUG CD:Files:System7 tools:M:Moniker 2.0.cpt 2.0 0 23K 6/15/92 Moniker 2.0 - This is an update (probably the only one I'll make) to Moniker, the drop-and-drag alias making program. The first version did not allow one to make aliases of disks or folders, the new version corrects that flaw. I also recoded this program to be 100% System 7 saavy. This includes the addition of Apple Events to the program. The source code is in THINK C format (a compiled version is included for non-programmers). This program and its accompanying code allow you to create alias files in a far superior method to that supported by System 7's Finder. The source code is in THINK C 5.0 format.
Kitty Litter.cpt System7DL AMUG CD:Files:System7 tools:J-K:Kitty Litter.cpt 2.1 0 8K 6/15/92 Kitty Litter 2.1 - Replaces System 7 trash icon (COLOR!!! or B&W) with a smiling cat sitting behind his clean litter box. Throw something away and the cat departs, leaving a stinking mess behind. When you select "Dump Kitty Litter" from the menu, Kitty comes back and his litter is fresh. Who ever heard of a fat trash can, anyway? Dedicated to "kitty", the cat without a name, who was killed by a car last summer, a darn good cat.

It can handle scripts compatible with versions 3.1 through 3.3 of the Installer. Currently, all the program does is decompile the script to a textfile. The output will probably be of no use unless you are already familiar with the installer format, or have a copy of the "Installer 3.x Scripting Guide". The decompiled output is *not* backwardly compatible with Rez. InstallerSpy is free, but I retain all rights to the program.
RetroBackup 1.0b1.cpt System7DL AMUG CD:Files:System7 tools:Frontier:RetroBackup 1.0b1.cpt 1.0b1 0 7K 6/09/92 RetroBackup 1.0b1 - RetroBackup Suite 1.0b1 by Dean Wett. This Frontier suite is designed for people using Dantz Development's Retrospect 1.3 with removable media (such as SyQuest cartridges, Bernoulli disks, MO disks, etc.). It's mostly useful for unattended incremental backups that do not require adding members (cartridges) during a backup sessionThe main feature of this suite is that it will eject & unmount the backup volume after a Retrospect scripted backup is executed. In the past I have used Retrospect's Calendar feature and the "Retro.Startup" system extension to auto-execute backups during the night.

System 7 allows these to be replaced via a copy/Paste and these will give you a leg up on brightening up your desktop. The instructions for copying them, as well as creating new ones, are included. They work in black and white as well as color, but color really helps to appreciate them.

Or a folder or disk containing text files, Word files, and PICT files, and move them to their own separate directories on their disk. Drag sets of files, folders, or disks into the application, “Drop Box-style”. Router will scan folders and disks provided depending on yourpreferences, and will move (if preferences allow, of course) each of the selected items to a directory you have set. ResLogger.cpt System7DL AMUG CD:Files:System7 tools:Frontier:ResLogger.cpt 0 21K 5/27/92 ResLogger - ResLogger is a UserLand Frontier Suite that compiles an outline of named resources. The primary use for this is as a tool for HyperCard developers to keep track of XCMDs and XFCNs which may be located on several disks - some even off-line. But it can be used for any named resource; snd 's being a logical candidate. ResLogger looks in the specified folder and all subfolders, for the specified resource. It then makes a sorted list of the resources. Each resource name is a heading (summit). The subheadings are the paths to each file that contains that resource.

Steve Krouse got so tired of making the File/Make trip that he spent two months of his life writing MyAliAsMaker (MAAM). Leave a copy of MAAM on your desktop. Whenever you want to make an alias, drag the document or application on top of the MAAM icon. MAAM will do its thing, and a copy of the file/app will appear next to it on the desktop.

bePatriotic.cpt System7DL AMUG CD:Files:System7 tools:B:bePatriotic.cpt 0 5K 5/08/92 bePatriotic - Election season is here, and the patriotic spirit seems to be a little lacking. So to get that patriotic spirit rockin’, I wrote this little thingy so you can show your colors on your Mac! beP only works with System 7 & up, and will refuse to run if this is not the case. What beP does is change one bit in the 'itlc' resource in your system file. To do this yourself, just use resedit to open up your system file & edit the resource yourself.
Fmap templates.cpt System7DL AMUG CD:Files:System7 Tools:F:Fmap templates.cpt 5 3K 4/29/92 Fmap templates - The 'fmap' resource in the Finder is the one that sets an alternate application to open a document. Knowlege of ResEdit required (definitly!) System 7 required.

Though I haven't tested it on a Mac Portable, I suspect it will work fine on that too. SafeSleep will not load on any Mac which does not have the Power Manager. SafeSleep blanks the screen and requests a password whenever a sleeping Mac is awakened. SpinD is a small FKey that spins down the internal hard drive in Macs that support that function. In Macs that don't support drive spin down, the FKey just beeps and exits. By Bill Steinberg - Sat, Mar 21, 1992. AppleLink X0542

Obliterate1.1.cpt System7DL AMUG CD:Files:System7 tools:N-O:Obliterate1.1.cpt 1.1 2 23K 4/14/92 Obliterate1.1 - Obliterate was designed because some people hate having to select Empty Trash all the time under System 7.0, and to avoid putting yet "another" extnesion into your system folder. It's designed to completely remove a file's data from your disk and make it totally unrecoverable. It's a scary idea, but it's sometimes necessary. You can also just delete the item and not shred it. Drag sets of files, folders, or disks into the application, "Drop Box-style." Obliterate will delete the selected items and their contents. Open files or files on locked disks will not be deleted.

TrashAlias 1.1.1.cpt System7DL AMUG CD:Files:System7 tools:T:TrashAlias 1.1.1.cpt 1.1.1 1 15K 4/09/92 TrashAlias 1.1.1 - is a freeware Control Panel for System 7. In System 7, users can create multiple desktop icons to represent a single document, application, or folder. One represents the actual original, but the others, called aliases, just point to it. This feature, for example, allows a user to keep an application located within one folder, but be able launch it by double-clicking on its alias from another location, such as the desktop. The alias is actually a separate file created and maintained by the Finder. However, if a user deletes the original file, the alias file still remains. TrashAlias remedies this problem by automatically deleting any alias files associated with a file (or folder) when it is deleted.
FCB Inspector 1.1.cpt System7DL AMUG CD:Files:System7 tools:F:FCB Inspector 1.1.cpt 1.1 0 14K 4/09/92 FCB Inspector 1.1 - FCB Inspector 1.1 is a freeware Control Panel that allows users to peek at a Macintosh’s list of open files. It also provides information about these files on demand and can close ones that aren’t crucial to system operation. Finally, when using System 6, it allows the maximum number of open files to be changed. To install it under System 6.0x, drag the FCB Inspector file icon into your System Folder and reboot. To install it under System Software 7.0, drag the FCB Inspector file icon over the System Folder icon and click OK to the dialog or drag it directly into the Control Panels folder and reboot. FCB Inspector provides balloon help in system 7.
Understudy.cpt System7DL AMUG CD:Files:System7 tools:U-Z:Understudy.cpt 1 6K 3/22/92 Understudy - The System 7 Finder (by default) will offer to open a TEXT or PICT document with TeachText, if the application that originally created the document is unavailable. This mechanism is controlled by a resource in the Finder itself, so it is extensible. The Understudy system extension provides a convenient way to modify this behavior, without changing the Finder. Written by Larry Rosenstein at Apple. Requires ResEdit for configuration.

QTrash™ 1.1.cpt System7DL AMUG CD:Files:System7 tools:P-Q:QTrash™ 1.1.cpt 1.1 0 10K 3/22/92 QTrash™ 1.1 - QTrash™ will delete all empty folders from the startup volume. Some folders are exceptions to this. Personally, I’m rather picky about the layout of files and folders on the volumes I manage at work. I am constantly finding folders such as “Empty Folder”, “Copy of Empty Folder”, “Copy of Copy of Empty Folder”, etc. — all with no files. One would think that “users” would have better things to do with their time. This is why I wrote QTrash™. That and I’ve finally managed to find sufficient time to learn C on the Macintosh (I’m learning C and Macintosh programming at the same time, so it’s slow going).
PutAway DeskScript.cpt System7DL AMUG CD:Files:System7 tools:Frontier:PutAway DeskScript.cpt 0 6K 3/22/92 PutAway DeskScript - PutAway is a Desktop script for cleaning up folders (or the desktop) by moving files into preassigned folders according to the files' type. For example: After Dark Modules will be placed into the After Dark Files folder inside the Control Panels folder, printer fonts will be placed in your Extensions folder, StuffIt files into an Archives folder, etc. For files of a particular type, if there is only one folder for those files, then this script will be useful. Requires Frontier.

HideAlways.CPT System7DL AMUG CD:Files:System7 tools:H-I:HideAlways.CPT 2 8K 3/22/92 HideAlways - In System 7, the Application menu (under the icon in the upper right-hand corner of your screen) has an item called Hide Others that lets you hide the windows of other active applications. However, if you switch to another application, the Mac no longer remembers that you wanted the other applications' windows to be hidden, and you have to reselect Hide Others to unclutter your screen once again. HideAlways fixes this problem by remembering that you selected Hide Others and sees to it that the other programs stay hidden as you switch around between applications.
Suites.CD.cpt System7DL AMUG CD:Files:System7 tools:Frontier:Suites.CD.cpt 0 17K 3/22/92 Every month I get a CD full of technotes, sample code, and other goodies froApple Computer. My mouth starts to water, thinking of all the new free source code I'm getting. I start opening folders to browse around and see what's on the disk. But the CD is too slow! It takes all the fun out of it. So -- I wrote a script that builds a table of contents of the CD in a Frontier outline. The index for the February Developer's CD ("20,000 Leagues Under the CD") is in suites.CD.outline. Requires Frontier 1.0. Dave Winer, UserLand Software, February 21, 1992
Stack suite.cpt System7DL AMUG CD:Files:System7 tools:Frontier:Stack suite.cpt 0 8K 3/22/92 Stack suite - At UserLand Software, we needed a Frontier-based stack for development we're doing on top of a communications software package. When connected to the host there's a limit of 30 minutes per session. However, the traversal the script does can take longer than 30 minutes. Solution: every time the script dives into a topic, it pushes its address on a stack. Every time thru the loop a sub-script checks to see if the timer expired. If so, it logs off, then logs back on.
PowerBook 1.0b1.cpt System7DL AMUG CD:Files:System7 tools:Frontier:PowerBook 1.0b1.cpt 0 6K 3/22/92 PowerBook Suite 1.0b1 - Use the scripts in this suite to synchronize two sets of folders, one on a PowerBook and one on your desktop computer. Follow these steps to configure the PowerBook suite. On your desktop computer's hard disk, create a new folder, call it Shared Folder, for example. Determine which folders on your desktop computer you want to travel with. For each of these folders, make an alias of the folder and place that alias in Shared Folder. From Frontier's Suites menu, select the PowerBook command. Select the "Set Home Path…" command in the Configure sub-menu, and select the folder you created in step 2.

Find Bogus Dates.cpt System7DL AMUG CD:Files:System7 tools:Frontier:Find Bogus Dates.cpt 0 4K 3/22/92 Find Bogus Dates - It's a Frontier desktop script, so when you double-click on it in the Finder it searchs all the files and folders in the folder it was launched from. As it scans it checks both the modification and creation dates for all files and folders and stops when it finds a date that Is earlier than January 24, 1984 -- the shipdate of the Macintosh. It's hard to imagine that you have any files older than that! You may want to modify the script to put a later date in here; a likely candidate is the date you got your Macintosh.

Alias Finder was written to provide a simple way to find the file that an alias file refers to. It performs this in the most natural way possible: it asks the System 7 Finder to show the file. It does this by sending an Apple Event to the Finder which was specifically created to do this. To have Alias Finder find an original file, merely drop the alias file on to Alias Finder within the Finder. Alias Finder will run and then exit, and the Finder will open thefolder where the original file is and select that file. Alias Finder can also find folders and volumes. Fast and Effective. DTPPrinter.cpt System7DL AMUG CD:Files:System7 tools:D:DTPPrinter.cpt 1.1 5 17K 9/06/91 When Apple first introduced System 7 at the 1989 Developer's Conference, it included something called the 'New Print Architecture'. One of the really cool parts of the NPA were 'Desktop Printers'. This allowed you to have an icon on your desktop which represented a particular printer. You could then drag a document onto the particular printer icon, and it would print to that printer. Very useful when you have multiple Laserwriters, a Fax Modem, Print to Disk utility, etc. Well, the NPA disappeared, and with it 'Desktop Printers'....In order to correct this MAJOR oversight, I wrote DTPrinter which implements 'Desktop Printers' NOW under System 7.

By option-shift-clicking on the title bar, the application’s “Save As” dialog will appear so you can change the name of the document if you wish. (You can even move around directories if you really wanted to.) The document will reappear sometime during this process.
Ashtray.cpt System7DL AMUG CD:Files:System7 Tools:A:Ashtray.cpt 2 6K 9/06/91 Ashtray is a system extension (INIT) which converts text into PigLatin. In its current implementation, you have to hold the option-key down to get the feature to work. Known Bugs: There is still an initial debugger break (NOP it out). It does not handle anything but the 1st word correctly. Single letter words are not converted to keep from conflicting with menu key equivalents.
